Bernie Bros will Bro!

As you can tell from the title of this blog, this is a spot I plan(mostly) to use for getting things off my chest. Those moments where the miasma of Stupid is so pronounced that you start to develop a migraine. This week had a couple of examples, the first being Bernie Sanders supporters sticking their fingers in their ears, unwilling to hear that their Lord and Saviour is an Old Fallible Man.

The story started with an interview Bernie had with CNN's Chris Cuomo. I don't pay close enough attention to know or care about the interview until accusations of "Corporate Media" bias against Bernie started surfacing on my YouTube and Twitter feed. While I know the yammerings from the Bernie Left(the One True Left), like to paint him a martyr, I thought I would check it out - just in case.

"Oh No!", the Bros cry, "Bernie is being wrongfully accused of being sexist."

"Oooo-kay", I thought. I have written before about Bernie's problems with women. So I dug a bit deeper and got a snippet of Bernie's words. He was responding to a question about Elizabeth Warren's rise in the polls.

"I think that there are a certain number of people who would like to see a woman elected"

And there we have a problem.

As I said above, Bernie has a problem with women. And most of that problem comes from him being so set in his principles, he has trouble seeing issues that don't fit in with his worldview. He has believed himself right when the world is wrong(and to be fair, he has been) for so long, I don't think he can imagine scenarios where he is genuinely wrong anymore. The Bros get their certainty of purpose directly from his own belief in himself.

But here he said something wrong and stupid.

It was wrong, because on face value the claim doesn't make sense. How could Warren's numbers go up from a demographic who was never going to vote for Bernie anyway? Sure if Warren's numbers could be compared to the drop in another Dem female as one Bro tried to claim(she named Kamala Harris) this could be true, but I hadn't seen that argument made by anyone else so this is really unlikely.

Which brings us to stupid. When you blame your lack of success on the fact the other competitor is a female, how do you think that makes you look.? I will tell you. It makes you look like a sexist jackass. and then Bernie went on to say something almost as stupid, but even more telling.

"There are people, who would like to see somebody who is younger..."

Now Bernie is saying that the reason Elizabeth Warren is gaining on him is because he is Old Male. The level of dumb here just blows my mind. If he can't see that old (white) men are mostly to blame for the problems we face, he is fucking blind! Sure he is one of the "good" old white men, but he has to realise he is not always going to be seen as such and pitch his message accordingly. And the first rule of that messaging is don't blame the voters for their choices.

The only problem is, it seems, the only answer Bernie has to questions that don't relate directly to policy, is find someone else to blame or make himself the victim. He followed up on that theme in Cuomo's next question too.
